5 Deadly Mistakes Article Marketers Make
You can be one of the successful article marketers and it might come rather easily. There are some things that you need to avoid so that you don’t be among the many more who used to be article marketers and are now struggling to make money. Article marketing can return huge results if done correctly and in a very cost effective way. If done poorly it is just a big waste of time, money, and energy.
Mistake #1—Making a boring title.
You need to realize that the title of your article is going to be mixed in with possibly many others and your potential reader has to choose which one. You will have much competition with everybody competing for the same reader. You don’t want your title to be something that will just blend in with the rest. You want your article to be something that will stand out and get noticed. Don’t get too radical with your title and make sure it is relevant to the topic you are addressing. but be creative and you will be competitive with other article marketers.
Mistake #2—Not having a clear purpose.
You must convey the main reason you want the reader to read your article. Is there a goal that you have in mind? You must be clear about what you want them to do and give them plenty of reason to want to take the action you want. You need to have a starting point and an ending point when planning your article and use everything in between to help them get from point “A” to point “B”. This is something that article marketers fail to do all too often.
Mistake #3—Not knowing your target audience.
You as an article marketer must keep in mind who your target audience is so you can write to their level. If your target audience is typically very knowledgeable about this particular subject matter, then you better make sure that you are as well. You can find out what they search for when they go online to search for this information and find out how to relate to them. You need to study your target market and write to them.
Mistake #4—Writing articles that will nwver be published.
Check the standards of the article directories that you use and write your articles to fit the strictest of standards. Make sure you have the minimum number of keywords. make sure you have a well written article. Make sure your article does not have problems with links within the article and that any links used are to appropriate places. Article marketers often forget to check an article for compliance that they are trying to submit only to have it rejected.
Mistake #5—There is no call to action.
Your goal as an article marketer is not just to inform, but to invite the reader to visit your website or to take whatever action you want them to take. It is incredibly important to ask for the sale, but it is also important to ask them to click on the link that you provide.
If you can avoid these simple mistakes you will find yourself on the fast track to success as article marketer.

Hi Lyle-
You have made some very good points.I particularly like tips #1 and #4.
The story is in the headline. You need to capture your audiences attention at the very beginning. And when I first started out I made the mistake of waiting my time submitting articles to directories without reading their guidelines.A big waste of valuable time.

Hi Lyle,
My favorite marketing strategy – article writing – and as John stated at the beginning I spent a lot of time writing, but had a hard time getting published and worse yet I got published but nobody read the articles
Doing a bit of research, as you have stated, can get you great results and the start of that is using good keywords in your title, then following up with informative and helpful information.
Have a great day!
Mark
Hi Lyle
This is a list of mistakes that every article marketer needs to read. I think at times that we all get so caught up in just writing articles that we tend to forget who are audience is and that they are the people we need to address.
Thanks for the reminder.

Great post, Lyle! “Mistake #5—There is no call to action” is the one I have made myself, even on my 40 hour a week job in sales. No matter how good a presentation you make, I learned that you still got to ask for the order.
